Big day around town. Today was the ceremony for the 70th anniversary of the bombing of Darwin. Excellent ceremony and wonderfully organised. This year I sat in the audience for a change. I even got to sit in the section reserved for the elderly. So many medals on so many proud chests. So many uniforms. Just marvellous. Great speeches from the Governor General, the Lord Mayor and the leader of the Federal Opposition. Poor speech from the Prime Minister however. The guest speaker was the daughter of the wireless operator who announced to the Air Force that the Japanese planes were on their way. What a shame they took no notice. I had not known that the Tiwi Islands had been bombed that day.
This link has interesting photos.
