Lattice smocking

My mother learned how to do lattice smocking many years ago. I was delighted when I found these instructions. I have heard this style referred to as counterchange smocking. Apparently in some countries it is called Canadian smocking, which seems rather odd to me as I associate it with mediaeval clothing.

Here are some links where the process is explained carefully and instructions could be printed to help you do the smocking.
